Lex & Liv specializes in stylish handmade children's footwear that is uncompromising in its devotion to delicate little feet. Sensing a need for non-toxic, vegetable tanned leather baby moccasins in the American marketplace, we sought to find the perfect leather, tanned and dyed using only the purest vegetable ingredients.

With a background in Architecture and a strong affinity for modern children's decor, the transition to handmade children's footwear was an unexpected, yet welcome, calling. After an initial health scare at our daughter's one year appointment, in which she received a false positive for lead exposure, I came to realize that her moccasins, which were made with mainstream leather, were tanned using heavy metal chromium. An exhaustive search revealed that there were no commercially available chrome-free moccasins in the USA.

Lex & Liv Footwear, named after my own two children, was born out of the desire to provide a healthier, environmentally friendlier, shoe option for my daughter - but it soon became much more. Very early in our start, we were featured in Vogue, Hello magazine, Moda Operandi, as well as becoming finalists in Martha Stewart's American made awards.

Our moccasins are chrome free, non-allergenic and eco-friendly. Every pair of our shoes is carefully handcrafted in upstate New York, from premium vegetable-tanned, toxin free leather. Featuring an elasticated, overlapping design, they are easy to get on but difficult for babies to remove. They offer protection, while encouraging the free range of motion and balance that develops from walking barefoot and unrestricted. To maximize comfort, only the soft suede portion of the leather comes in contact with baby's heel.

We care about what goes into our leather and, ultimately, onto your baby's feet.
